WHY MEDITATION?
Meditation has more benefits than you could imagine:
The fight, flight or freeze / stress response (sympathetic nervous system) is supposed to be a temporary response to get you out of danger, but in this modern world, it is likely yours is activated constantly – from the alarm going off in the morning, to a traffic jam making you late for a meeting.
This means your cortisol levels never get a chance to reduce, which means they become so high that they become ineffective, creating dis-ease in the body which can lead to serious stress-related health conditions such as heart attacks & strokes
It is imperative you take action to switch off your stress response & turn down that cortisol.
The good news is – meditation can do that for you, by switching on your relaxation response (the parasympathetic nervous system), which in turn switches off your stress response (your sympathetic nervous system / fight, flight or freeze)
Telomeres are the little caps at the end of each strand of your DNA that protect your chromosomes, like the plastic covering at the end of shoelaces.
Without the covering, shoelaces begin to fray – it’s the same with chromosomes – as we age, our telomeres shorten, our DNA strands become damaged & our cells can’t do their jobs properly – this is when we see age related conditions developing.
Research has shown that with even just 15 minutes a day of a meditative activity, your Telomeres can begin to repair and regrow!
This means you can stave off age related diseases, feel younger & have more vitality!
It was once thought that our brains were solid & unchangeable, but we now know we can change & develop them by practising new thoughts & by implementing simple practices to develop new neural-pathways
By meditating for 15 minutes a day, you will enable your hippocampus ( your memory centre) to develop, meaning you can Improve your memory
Your brain has 2 hemispheres which work together in harmony:
Though the theory that the left hemisphere is more logical & analytical & the right hemisphere is more creative & intuitive is not accurate, more recent research is showing that sensory information bounces between both sides of your brain in order to be processed
Meditation is beneficial because it helps to balance the 2 sides of the brain, aiding harmonious functioning, helping to stave off diseases of the brain such as Dementia & Alzheimers

Scientific research is finally catching up with what the ancient wisdom traditions have known all along, proving the physiological benefits of meditation & meditative activities. But you don’t have to be ‘spiritual’ to meditate. Meditation can benefit EVERYONE – no matter what your spiritual or religious orientation.

With practice, meditation brings a feeling of peace & calm, which spills out into everyday life, meaning challenges can be dealt with far more easily, feelings of anger can decrease & an open compassion for others can develop. These wonderful ‘side effects’ have been evidenced in human records for thousands of years, but are difficult to explain in words. It is best experienced on a personal level.
It is commonly believed that meditation brings us closer to who we really are – the soul which brought us into being in these incredible physical bodies – to that part of us that is deeply connected to every other person, being, creature & creation in existence. To experience this deep knowing is the reason spiritual seekers have turned to meditation for millennia – to merge with all that is, that energy of pure & unconditional love that surrounds us & that we all are.
